This week we are reading chapter two and praying for our marriage. Based on 1 Peter 3:7, "Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered." We are praying about five specific areas of your relationship with your husband.
1. Pray for your husband's physical relationship with you - that he would want to "dwell" with you, that he would want to spend time with you. 2. Pray for your husband's intellectual relationship with you - that he would "dwell with you with understanding", that he would be sensitive to your challenges, burdens, fears, hopes and dreams. 3. Pray for husband's emotional relationship with you - "giving honor to the wife", that he would respect your thoughts and feelings, that he would not neglect you. 4. Pray for your husband's spiritual relationship with you - that he would acknowledge that you are "heirs together of the grace of life", you are a team encouraging, exhorting, and comforting one another. 5. Pray for your husband's priestly relationship with you - that he would take his role as the servant- leader of the home seriously. On page 34 she shows how to pray the verse by putting your husband's name in. You can also use Ephesians 5:25-31 to pray over these specific areas in your marriage. I am continuing to pray for each of you that you would not grow weary in the battle. I'm sure some of you have already experienced the fiery darts of the enemy. Be encouraged, that only means your prayers are making him nervous!

This week read chapter one and pray for your husband's spiritual growth. Specifically pray that your husband will grow in the knowledge of God's will, that he will please God and that he would be strengthened by God. Elizabeth George suggests you pray Colossians 1:9-11, "We also...do not cease to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy."
Know that I am praying for you, that God would give you the desire to pray for your husband every day. That the Holy Spirit would prompt you to go before the throne of God for your husband, your marriage, and your family. As you begin this journey, know that I am praying for you this week. Not only that God would teach us to pray but that He would place the desire in our hearts to be prayer warriors for our husbands. Psalm 37:4 tells us to "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart". I am praying that as you spend time in God's presence that He will give you a passion for prayer, that you would determine in your heart to pray for your husband and your marriage like never before. Understand that as you take on this role, your enemy the devil will attack you. Continue praying. Every morning put on the full armor of God so you will be able to stand. (Ephesians 6) Elizabeth encourages us to "embrace your role as a prayer warrior. It's vital that you see yourself as a soldier doing battle when you pray for your beloved husband". These next few weeks will not be easy but worth it. Remember we are doing this together, we are praying for each other. The Holy Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words and Almighty God is ready to move!
Lord, teach us to pray.....
I am so excited that you are joining me in praying for our husbands. I am expecting God to do great things in our marriages over the next few weeks! Since some of you are still waiting for your book to arrive, let's read "Answering God's Call to Pray" this week and we will begin chapter one next week. (August 21st) Please let me know if you are participating so I can pray alongside you for your husband. If you are just hearing about this now, the book we are using is 15 Verses to Pray For Your Husband by Elizabeth George. |
